Sonnenstick richtig anwenden: Worauf kommt es beim Auftragen an?
A sun stick fits in the bag alongside keys and lip balm. This makes it practical for on the go. It still needs attention when applying it: A quick stroke across the cheek doesn’t tell you whether there’s enough sun protection everywhere.
The specified sun protection factor refers to a specified test quantity. If too little product ends up on the skin or areas are left out, you can’t simply rely on the printed value. You can find the basics in our article about SPF, UVA and its use in everyday life .
Work evenly over all areas
Apply the stick according to the instructions on the package. Consciously go through the uncovered areas of skin one after the other and allow the sections to overlap. Then distribute the product carefully: The American Academy of Dermatology recommends repeated application and rubbing of sticks so that no gaps remain.
How much a single stroke delivers cannot be determined from the word “stick”. Pressure, formulation and the size of the application area play a role. A general number of lines cannot therefore easily be used as proof of quantity for every product. When applying, also check your nose, ears and hairline if they are uncovered.
A mirror can help you keep an eye on the order of the areas when you are on the move. However, it does not reliably show invisible protection gaps. If you find it easier to apply the cream to large areas, you can use it for the first application and take the stick with you as an additional format.
Waterproof still means adding
The TOCOBO Vita Waterproof Sun Stick SPF50+ PA++++ is expressly described in the shop as waterproof. This property applies to this product; it does not automatically belong to every sun stick. A specific duration in the water should only be taken from the respective labeling or a suitable test.
Waterproof sun protection is also replaced: outside about every two hours and also after swimming, sweating heavily or drying off. The NHS advice on sun protection explains why water and towels can reduce protection. Reapplying is part of the application even if the SPF is high.
If you are outdoors for long periods of time, you should wear shade, clothing, a hat and sunglasses with UV protection. Which texture you like to apply sufficiently is a very practical decision. Our article on choosing a sunscreen helps you find the right format for your everyday life.
