PDRN in skincare: What’s in the serum – and who is it suitable for?

PDRN sounds like a laboratory, but it is often found on the packaging right next to hyaluronic acid, peptides or collagen. The abbreviation means polydeoxyribonucleotide and refers to DNA fragments. You will often come across the name Sodium DNA on a cosmetic ingredient list.

Cosmetics are not the same as an injection

Some of the known PDRN research comes from medical applications or studies using injections. A serum remains on a different application route. The results cannot therefore simply be transferred to the bottle in the bathroom. Statements such as “repairs DNA” or promises of safe healing are not appropriate abbreviations for a cosmetic product.

The entire formulation can still be interesting: humectants, niacinamide or peptides determine how the product feels on your skin.

Two serums, two different recipes

The Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid Capsule 100 Serum combines sodium DNA with several forms of hyaluronic acid. In addition to sodium DNA, the Medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Serum contains, among other things, peptides, niacinamide, hydrolyzed collagen and fragrance. That doesn’t automatically make anything better; it answers different desires.

If you are undecided between the two, our PDRN serum comparison opens both products side by side. You can also find the detailed context in our editorial Anua–Medicube comparison .

How to classify PDRN

Use a PDRN serum like a normal serum step: after cleansing and optional toner, before the cream. The instructions for the specific product are crucial. Apply one at a time if your skin reacts quickly. If you have a good moisturizing routine, you don’t necessarily need additional PDRN.

Statutory guarantee

Official EU notice on the statutory guarantee. The full text follows below the graphic. Link to Your Europe, opens in a new tab.

Text of the EU notice

At least two years of statutory guarantee of conformity for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can assert their rights under the statutory guarantee, for example if the goods

  • do not correspond to the description,
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity that existed at the time of delivery of the goods and becomes apparent within the statutory guarantee period. In such cases sellers must offer:

  • free repair or free replacement,
  • in certain cases a price reduction or a full refund of the purchase price.

Some countries apply a longer statutory guarantee period. For second-hand goods a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

For more information about your rights in a particular country, scan the QR code below or ask the seller.

What to do if you receive goods that do not conform?

  1. Report the problem to the seller as soon as possible.
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as the receipt, invoice or a bank statement.

Sellers and manufacturers may also offer commercial guarantees that apply independently of the statutory guarantee. This GARAN label, for example, shows that the manufacturer grants a commercial durability guarantee at no extra cost that covers the whole product.
