Ferulic acid in skincare: Why is it in vitamin serums?
Ferulic acid is on the ingredient list as ferulic acid and often takes up less space on the bottle than vitamin C. It takes on an interesting task: As an antioxidant, it can slow down oxidation processes in a recipe. This helps to prevent sensitive ingredients from breaking down. However, the name alone does not say how long a particular serum remains stable.
The combination with vitamins C and E is easy to understand: in an experimental study, ferulic acid kept a precisely defined solution of ascorbic acid and tocopherol more stable. The result applies to the mixture examined and cannot be transferred to every serum containing ferulic acid. You can read about the forms of vitamin C in the guide to vitamin C .
In the EQQUALBERRY Vitamin Illuminating Serum you will find ferulic acid alongside tocopherol and the vitamin C derivative 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid. It is a different formulation than the combination studied. According to the application, one or two drops are applied to the skin after the toner and are gently patted in. You can experience ferulic acid in a single serum without layering multiple vitamin products on top of each other.
