PDRN from salmon or plants: What does “vegan PDRN” mean?

PDRN is not automatically vegan - and “Rose PDRN” does not say everything about the complete recipe. This way you can read the information more carefully.

PDRN from salmon or plants: What does “vegan PDRN” mean?

One serum says “Salmon PDRN,” the next says “Rose PDRN,” and a third is advertised as vegan. The names sound clear, but they are only so when the origin and complete recipe are proven.

Why salmon is often mentioned

Classic cosmetic PDRN or sodium DNA can be obtained from fish components. For the Medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Serum , the recipe mentions not only Sodium DNA but also Milt Extract and Salmon Egg Extract. This specific variant is therefore not a vegan choice.

What plant PDRN can mean

Some manufacturers use DNA fragments from plants, such as roses or rice. “Plant PDRN” first describes the advertised source of this ingredient. This does not automatically mean that every other element of the recipe is vegan. Even the name Sodium DNA alone does not reliably tell you the source.

Is one origin more effective?

No certain superiority can be derived from “salmon” or “rose” on their own. Concentration, size of the fragments, stability and the rest of the formulation play a role. The data available for applied cosmetics is also much more limited than some advertising suggests.

How to make a transparent choice

If vegan cosmetics are important to you, look for a clear statement from the manufacturer about the entire formulation . Also check whether it contains fragrances or other ingredients that are relevant to you. Our article PDRN, collagen and peptides in comparison helps with the technical classification; for a single INCI name you use Understanding Ingredients .

If the origin of a specific product remains unclear, you can ask via Ask Thu . Then we check exactly this variant instead of guessing from the color of the bottle or a plant name.

Statutory guarantee

Official EU notice on the statutory guarantee. The full text follows below the graphic. Link to Your Europe, opens in a new tab.

Text of the EU notice

At least two years of statutory guarantee of conformity for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can assert their rights under the statutory guarantee, for example if the goods

  • do not correspond to the description,
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity that existed at the time of delivery of the goods and becomes apparent within the statutory guarantee period. In such cases sellers must offer:

  • free repair or free replacement,
  • in certain cases a price reduction or a full refund of the purchase price.

Some countries apply a longer statutory guarantee period. For second-hand goods a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

For more information about your rights in a particular country, scan the QR code below or ask the seller.

What to do if you receive goods that do not conform?

  1. Report the problem to the seller as soon as possible.
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as the receipt, invoice or a bank statement.

Sellers and manufacturers may also offer commercial guarantees that apply independently of the statutory guarantee. This GARAN label, for example, shows that the manufacturer grants a commercial durability guarantee at no extra cost that covers the whole product.
