Glass Skin: What does the look mean – and how does it suit your skin?
Maybe you like that fresh shimmer on your cheeks, which is often called “glass skin” in photos. This means smooth, well-moisturized and light-reflecting skin; the beauty trend comes from Korea. This can be a nice suggestion for your care. Your skin can still show pores, fine lines and different shades.
A look is not a new skin type
Glass skin describes an appearance. This doesn’t tell you how healthy your skin is or what products it needs. Light contributes a lot to the impression: turn slightly to the side at the window and watch how the shimmer changes. A single photo is therefore not a reliable benchmark for your own care. The American Academy of Dermatology also classifies the trend cautiously: The result shown is not realistic for every skin, and many additional products can irritate it.
What texture would you like to feel on your skin?
Start with your existing routine. If you are missing a light, moist care step after cleansing, a toner may be interesting. The Anua Rice 70 Glow Milky Toner is a milky example with rice water, glycerin and panthenol. Pour some into your hands and rub it gently onto your face. You don’t have to make it a shift ritual; one application is enough to get to know the texture.
If you like a cream with a slightly shiny finish, check out the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream . It combines, among other things, glycerin and squalane. Apply an amount that suits the way your skin feels and see whether you still find the texture pleasant after a while. Shine alone says little about whether you like a cream in your everyday life. Both products are examples; you don’t need them together to make your care meaningful.
You can find more toners, serums, creams and additional care in our Glass Skin collection .
A few steps should be enough
Suitable sun protection is essential in the morning; the AAD recommends at least SPF 30 with broad spectrum protection. You can find out how cleaning, care and sun protection fit together in our morning and evening routine. A peeling or additional mask is not mandatory for this look. If you like a mask evening, the classification of sheet, hydrogel and night masks will help you choose. You can enjoy a fresh finish and still keep the routine as small as it works for you.
Glass Skin is a finish, not a skin type
The visible shine comes from moisture, smooth textures and often from light or make-up. Pores, lines and individual impurities do not disappear. If your skin is flaking or burning, layering more isn’t automatically the answer.
With our skin type test you can classify how your skin feels before choosing a product. The related, slightly softer trend is explained in the article Bloom Skin .
