Facial care over 40: A K-Beauty routine that suits you
The skin on the forehead is shiny and on the cheeks it is tight. The new cream with the big “40+” on the package still feels too heavy. This is a good moment to put the age number aside for a moment and take a closer look: What is your skin actually missing in the morning, and what do you want in the evening?
Facial care from the age of 40 can be very manageable. Here you will find a suggestion that you can adapt to the way your skin feels. Products that you get along well with stay in their place.
What can change after 40
Dryness, finer lines or an uneven complexion can be more noticeable. At the same time, some skin remains oily or prone to impurities. A birthday neither determines your skin type nor does it automatically require a rich cream.
Before making a change, note two simple observations: How do your cheeks feel after washing? How should you care for the T-zone in the afternoon? This often makes it easier to make a selection than with a long list of popular active ingredients.
Your morning routine: three manageable steps
- Cleanse gently. Remove sweat and residue without hot water or vigorous rubbing. When using a cleanser, a mild texture is a sensible starting point.
- Moisture as needed. If your cheeks are dry, apply the cream to cleansed skin. If your sun protection already offers enough care comfort, you can skip the separate cream in the morning.
- Apply sunscreen. The last care step before make-up is to apply sufficient UV protection to uncovered skin. Plan it before you go out.
Do you like a gel that foams with water when washing? The Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser is a possible choice for this. Apply it to damp skin and rinse with lukewarm water. The clean feeling doesn’t have to end with a feeling of tension.
For a light finish in the morning, Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh SPF 50+ PA++++ is interesting. If you prefer to wear a creamier sunscreen, the original Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics is more suited to this texture desire. Neither replaces waterproof sports protection.
In the evening: cleanse, apply cream, be ready
Remove make-up and sunscreen thoroughly without repeatedly scrubbing the skin. Whether one or two cleaning steps make sense depends, among other things, on how adhesive the products used are. Our article on Double Cleansing explains the process.
The cream can then follow. The Pyunkang Yul Moisture Cream contains, among other things, jojoba oil and shea butter. It is a nice option if you like to apply creamy care in the evening and are not looking for an additional active ingredient step. Massage a small amount onto your face and neck and observe how your skin feels.
Dry Skin or combination skin: adjust the routine
For dry skin it is worth looking at cleansing and cream first. Another watery serum does not automatically make a finishing cream that is not nourishing enough suitable. If you have combination skin , you can care for the cheeks a little more generously and use moisturizer more sparingly on the shiny T-zone. When it comes to sun protection, however, don’t skimp on the amount required.
If dryness and sensitivity appear in connection with hormonal changes, also read skin care during menopause. Severe or persistent symptoms should be clarified dermatologically.
Five pitfalls that are easy to avoid
- Replacing everything at once: Start with one product so you can map changes.
- Confuse richness with effectiveness: The skin should feel good; a thick layer is not proof of performance.
- Restart peeling and vitamin A care at the same time: Several irritating steps make it difficult to start calmly.
- Save sunscreen for later: A serum does not replace it. Here we explain the role of UV protection.
- Look for a different result every day: First check whether you can tolerate the routine and whether you want to use it regularly.
FAQs about facial care after 40
Do I have to use retinol now?
No. If you want to specifically target fine lines, vitamin A care can be an option. But it can be irritating. Our guide for getting started with retinol and retinal explains the careful introduction. Retinoids are not part of your skin care routine during pregnancy.
Do I need my own night cream?
A moisturizer without UV protection can be suitable morning and evening. An additional night cream is particularly worthwhile if you consciously want a different texture in the evening.
Does the routine still work at 35?
Yes. The basic steps are not tied to 40. Our overview Skin Longevity – strengthening skin in the long term shows how this becomes suitable long-term care.
What we know for sure
Care is selected based on skin condition and tolerance. Moisture and UV protection form the basis; Retinoids are a possible supplement with their own instructions for use.
